A deadly plant disease found in California and Oregon now is threatening oak trees in Missouri. State agriculture inspectors confirmed Sudden Oak Death disease was damaging trees and other plant life throughout Missouri.
State inspectors confirmed nearly more than 100 cases of Sudden Oak Death disease at more than 100 Missouri nurseries in the past month. The deadly disease is a fungus that kills trees and plants.
Missouri Walmart’s have received these suspect plants. State inspectors said Missourians bought most of the infected plants between March and June 2019 at Walmart and Rural King stores. Signs of Oak Death Disease are wilting or browning leaves, leaf spots and twig die-backs.
State Entomologist said “We’ve gone and collected samples at all of those locations. They don’t have confirmation of the pathogen in Mid-Missouri at this point, but the diagnostics are still ongoing.”
