The Boston Red Sox Hire Smith, First Black Female Coach

The Boston Red Sox made history this week when it was announced that they hired the first Black woman Bianca Smith to coach in pro baseball.

In a press statement from MLB, Bianca Smith will serve as a minor league coach within the organization, based at the club’s player development facility in Fort Myers, Florida, and will work mainly with position players.

Most recently Mrs. Smith was an assistant baseball coach and hitting coordinator at Carroll University, a private liberal arts college in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
