Businesses across the United States are showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to closing its doors due to the Coronavirus. Steak’n Shake has permanently closed 57 of its restaurants nationwide. Fifty one businesses were corportate owned the other six were franchised. The company has plunged over $50 million dollars on sells losses in the first quarter. Only 553 locations remain open but for how long remains uncertain.

The unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak requires we all make changes to ensure the safety of our fellow citizens. To that end, Steak ‘n Shake is committed to helping stop the spread of this disease and to protecting our customers and employees.
Following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), we have enacted the following policies in all our restaurants. Effective immediately, we are:
- Escalating our cleaning and disinfecting practices to maintain the highest standards of hygiene including door handles, menus, dining tables, chairs, countertops, touch screens and restrooms.
- Reminding all employees of the need for frequent and proper hand washing, glove use and strict adherence to all other existing safety protocols.
- All employees are asked to check their temperature prior to each shift. Any staff member with a fever will be advised to seek medical attention and will not be allowed to work.
- Our drive-thru experience, online ordering and delivery options remain open in all available locations for those who prefer this method of service.
