Super Bowl LVIII Champions, Kansas City Chiefs are bringing the title back to downtown Kansas City on Wednesday for what could be the largest rally celebration yet.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs are back-to-back Super Bowl champions after winning Super Bowl LVIII vs the San Francisco 49ers in a game that was witnessed by an estimated 115 million viewers.
The game with that many people watching did not disappoint and will likely go down as one of the most memorable, with KC winning back-to-back titles — a rare accomplishment — and Patrick Mahomes’ late brilliance, and it was a game that won’t soon be forgotten.
Now it is time to celebrate the back-to-back win and to start planning for a victory parade and rally.
Kansas City leaders have confirmed the parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 14. That date comes after the city council cleared the Greater Kansas City Sports Commission to spend nearly $1 million on the event — even more than last year. With over 500,000 people expected to appear…We can’t say this enough, with weather forecast to be in the 60’s, more people are expected to head downtown to celebrate the back-to-back champs. You bet more people will crowd in downtown.
The rally is scheduled to begin at approximately 12:45 p.m. in front of Union Station and the National WWI Museum and Memorial north lawn. It should last about one hour.
The parade route will start at 6th Street and Grand Boulevard, and the Chiefs will head south on Grand toward Union Station.
Still, organizers stress there will be significant travel delays around the parade route and Union Station, and drivers should avoid the area.
Find a legal spot wherever you can. Notice we said LEGAL. Tow trucks were on-site towing vehicles illegally parked in medians, along the highways, and more last year.
City officials said the Streetcar will be in operation before the parade starts and hopes to reopen Wednesday evening to help with transit downtown.
The Kansas City Sports Commission is urging people to carpool or utilize park-and-ride options through Ride KC.
Another option – stay at a hotel in the downtown area. However, those are filling up fast. And, remember, it’s also Valentine’s Day. Several of the area’s biggest school districts have already canceled classes for that day, including Independence and Kansas City.
The event will be streamed live for those that cannot attend.
